James Nathan Hargis is the founder and attorney at James N. Hargis Attorney at Law, serving clients throughout Middle Tennessee with a focus on criminal defense. With nearly a decade of experience and a practice built on real courtroom work, he brings a trial-tested approach to every case he handles.

James has tried over 30 criminal jury trials, ranging from single-day misdemeanor cases to week-long first-degree murder trials. His experience includes handling thousands of criminal cases, with multiple acquittals in serious felony matters, including A and B felonies, as well as significant charge reductions in high-stakes cases. He is also death penalty certified in Tennessee, reflecting advanced training and qualification to handle the most serious criminal matters.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Tennessee Technological University in 2013 and his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2016. James is a member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (TACDL), the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA), and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).
